We Are King
You can catch We Are King streaming now on the Olympic Channel, and soon on NBC Sports. A huge shoutout to all of the kids and coaches who let us into their lives and our partners at Shutterstock Studios.
We Are King follows MLK on a season of ups and downs in their quest for a 20th city championship in 25 years. We followed Coach Jake and the kids of MLK Soccer team through after-school practices, tense matches, and the quiet moments in between. From the pitch to their homes, from the Bronx to Randall’s Island, this is a coming of age story about one of the winningest programs in the world, at any level, in any sport.
With respect to the Yankees, NYC’s greatest sports dynasty is the boy’s soccer team at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, the only public high school anywhere in the US that consistently ranks in the top 10 nationally. The team is comprised of immigrant and first-generation kids with roots across the globe. Their leader, Coach Jake, is a 78-year-old recovering addict both loved and hated across the city for relentless desire to win.
